Living in Asheville during Helene, I wanted to put my communication skills to good use. With limited mobility due to a broken leg, and fueled by the frustration of the lack of clear information being provided to my community, I took to my computer. Working in resturant parking lots on public StarLinks or on friend’s porches siphoning internet from neighbors with wifi, the WNC Helene Resource document evolved and grew.
I created this document powered by open-source data; with maps of resources, spreadsheets of individuals needing direct mutual aid, and so much more. A friend, Ashley Howell, joined me in working to make the document as usable as possible and in keeping the information up-to-date.
